My Green Lab and ISBER

A New Partnership for Greener Biobanks

My Green Lab is partnering with the International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories (ISBER) to help biobanks worldwide adopt high-quality sustainability standards and strengthen environmentally responsible operations. As part of this collaboration, ISBER supports broader participation in the annual Freezer Challenge, which guides lab teams in optimizing cold storage, reducing energy use, and embedding sustainable practices into everyday operations.

Together, we are co-developing practical tools, shared resources, and educational opportunities that empower labs to make measurable improvements across their facilities. We look forward to advancing sustainable biobanking with ISBER and continuing to build a global culture of responsible science.

The 2026 Freezer Challenge Begins January 5th!

Every year, the Freezer Challenge showcases how laboratories around the world are rethinking cold storage to advance a more sustainable scientific future. The 2025 results are nothing short of remarkable: 3,724 labs across 36 countries collectively saved 31.6 million kWh... a milestone that reflects both innovation and global commitment.

This year’s participants demonstrated that real progress happens when technology, training, and culture move in sync. From modernizing equipment and optimizing inventory systems to securing institution‑wide leadership support, these labs showed what’s possible when sustainability becomes a shared priority.
