Driving market infrastructure for sustainable science
We’re proud to announce that the keynote speakers for the upcoming My Green Lab Europe Summit are two global leaders shaping the future of sustainable procurement, policy, and supply chain transformation.
Oliver (Ollie) Hurrey, Founder of Galvanised and leader of the Sustainable Procurement Pledge Champions Program and Scope 3 Peer Group, brings over 20 years of experience turning ambitious climate goals into measurable supply chain action, convening 3,000+ decarbonization leaders globally.
Emmanuelle Maire, Head of Unit for Bioeconomy and Sustainable Materials at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Environment, leads implementation of the EU Bioeconomy Strategy and key circular economy regulations, helping shape the policy landscape driving sustainability across Europe’s life sciences sector.
Sustainability is no longer optional and is becoming embedded in how markets operate. At this years Europe Summit, we’ll explore what that shift means for life sciences organizations in practice, and how this sector can lead with credibility and accountability.
My Green Lab 2.0 Certification surpasses 1,300 active labs wordwide
We’ve now worked with more than 5,000 labs globally, with over 1,300 actively participating in My Green Lab Certification 2.0. Of those, 644 labs have achieved certification or recertification under the enhanced 2.0 standard, while even more are progressing through the program. These numbers signal that institutions worldwide are keen on embedding measurable, accountable sustainability into their scientific practice.
The Eppendorf 25 mL tube family is now certified with the My Green Lab ACT Ecolabel 2.0. These upgraded ACT Ecolabels provide even more comprehensive, third-party verified sustainability data for these products, including that they come in packaging that is ~60% recycled or renewable content, and are manufactured with ~80% recyclable materials. Also noted are the environmental practices of the manufacturing facility, including ISO 14001 certification, renewable energy sourcing, and verified Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions tracking with a validated near-term GHG reduction target. According to the manufacturer, the 25 mL tube format may support more space-efficient storage workflows, and is available with snap-cap and screw-cap options.
Congratulations to Leybold, whose ECODRY plus dry multistage roots* pumps are now My Green Lab ACT Ecolabel certified!
The ACT Ecolabel reports audited environmental performance information related to manufacturing practices at the Lutin, Czech Republic facility, including documented reductions in water use and waste generation over time. Specifically, the ACT Ecolabel listings verify a reduction in daily water use from onsite washers from 10 m³ to 2 m³ and a decrease in waste production per pump produced from 17.74 kg to 16.24 kg.
Additional third‑party verified environmental impact data disclosed through the ACT Ecolabel includes renewable energy sourcing, RoHS compliance, packaging content (nearly 40% recycled material), measured vacuum pump energy consumption, and end‑of‑life return options. Additionally, according to the manufacturer, these pumps are designed for low maintenance requirements for up to five years.
By getting these products listed in the ACT database with trusted ACT Ecolabel Certification, these organizations are showcasing their commitment to transparency and sustainability. In doing so they are making it easier for labs worldwide to choose greener solutions. Learn how to get your products added to the database here.
TheBIG Clinical Trial Sustainability Survey: Shaping the Future Towards Low Carbon Trials
The Sustainable Healthcare Coalition, in partnership with the industry Low Carbon Clinical Trial (iLCCT) Consortium, has launched a new survey to better understand the clinical trial industry’s readiness to adopt environmentally sustainable practices.
If you work in clinical trials or within the clinical trial supply chain, we invite you to share your insights. Your input will help shape practical strategies to reduce environmental impact while maintaining the highest standards of quality, patient safety, and data integrity. Findings will be published by the Sustainable Healthcare Coalition and will inform next steps to support sustainable transformation across the industry.
This month's #HowToGreenLab tip is to harness the power of community to amplify sustainability in your lab. Sharing your lab’s sustainability goals, wins, and lessons with your colleagues and network isn’t just good practice; it's impactful. Personal stories and local examples make sustainability feel achievable and inspire others to take action.
In the spirit of sharing, let us know in the comments below how you're building a more sustainable laboratory environment.
